With the promise of summer looming large, Quebecers are bracing themselves for a season of relaxation amidst economic uncertainty. The latest findings from CAA-Quebec's annual vacation survey reveal a populace eager for respite, yet grappling with the realities of a high-cost living environment.
According to the survey, conducted by Léger on behalf of CAA-Quebec, over two-thirds (68%) of the populace are gearing up for holiday adventures, with 57% opting to explore destinations within the province. This preference for local travel comes as no surprise, given the economic landscape. As Philippe Blain, Vice President of Travel at CAA-Quebec, notes, "The high cost of living has thrown a spanner in the works for many people’s plans."
Alice Charbonneau-Bernier, Manager of Communications and Public Relations at Tourism Outaouais, highlights the array of affordable activities available in the area. "Several splendid summer hikes await in Outaouais," says Charbonneau-Bernier. "Camping is also a popular accommodation choice, with numerous options available throughout the region."
But Outaouais offers more than just hiking and camping. The region boasts five cycling circuits that allow visitors to discover its diverse landscapes. The Gatineau trails alone form a network of over 300 kilometres, comprising recreational trails and cycling paths. For those seeking sun and sand, Outaouais has a selection of picturesque beaches to choose from. Moreover, visitors can enjoy numerous parks free of charge, including the Relais Plein Air du Parc de la Gatineau and the Centre de Plein Air du Lac-Leamy.
Cultural enthusiasts will find much to explore in Outaouais as well. The Sentier Culturel offers a free, interactive art trail in the heart of downtown Gatineau. Meanwhile, several national museums, such as the Canadian Museum of History, offer free admission at various times throughout the week.
