Quebec green lights new elementary school in Chelsea

With Chelsea’s population growth, the Centre de services scolaire des Portages-de-l’Outaouais (CSSPO) has been asking for more facilities for the past few years. On June 20, Gatineau deputy Robert Bussière made the announcement that Quebec will go forward with building a new French elementary school. The new school will have students from age 4 until grade 6.
This was welcome news for the community as there was previously only one other French elementary school in the area. The school is expected to open for the 2026 school year and will be located in the centre village.
The next step will be to determine the site of the school.
