Pride Week: a schedule of activities by Jeunesse Idem
Sonia Roy
For Pride Week, which will take place from August 22 to 28, 2022, a special schedule has been designed by Jeunesse Idem, which includes many activities to celebrate diversity and the 2LGBTQIA+ community in the Outaouais. Many of these free activities are open to families and this fun-filled week will culminate in the annual Pride Walk, which is scheduled to take place (weather permitting) in downtown Ottawa on Sunday, August 28. Here's a look at some of the celebrations to keep in mind, including the Aylmer Bulletin's Pride Rendezvous on Saturday, August 20th at the Aydelu Centre!
Monday, August 22: Pride Flag Raising and Coffee Break
The official raising of the progressive flag will take place at 1:00 pm at the Maison du Citoyen, located at 25 Laurier Street. Following the flag raising, attendees will be invited to the Jeunesse Idem offices at 109 Wright Street, suite 007 (door at 41 Leduc Street) for a coffee shop. On the menu: discussions around issues facing members of the 2LGBTQIA+ community.
Tuesday, August 23: Pride Kahoot
This virtual activity will take place online at 7pm via the Kahoot virtual quiz platform. Several prizes and surprises await the participants of the quiz, which will focus on the 2LGBTQIA+ community, including gift cards for the boutique l'As des jeux (located on Gréber Boulevard), which also has online shopping options, as well as a pair of tickets for Cirque du soleil, whose Kooza show will be performed in Gatineau (Place Zibi) at the end of August.
Thursday, August 25: Drag night in Old Hull
Many guests will be gathered on the cobblestones of Laval Street around 7pm, including Mz Horizon, JD Mercii and D'Lo Vtton. This main artery of Old Hull, on which the Place Laval play stage is located, will be animated for the occasion and citizens of all ages are welcome.
Saturday, August 27: Story time with a drag queen
This event is perfect for your little ones and will take place at the Maison des arts littéraires de Gatineau at 10:30 am. A drag queen accompanied by a youth writer will take advantage of the morning to tell various stories to the children and young people present, under the themes of inclusion and diversity.
Saturday, August 27: Pride Night at the Minotaure
Adults will not be left behind during Pride Week in Gatineau! The most colorful party of the year will take place at the Minotaure bar starting at 7 p.m., at 3 Kent Street, in Old Hull. Jeunesse Idem and the Minotaure team are joining forces to offer you "THE 2LGBTQIA+ party of the summer". Whether it's to spend some time in the arcades of the Minotaure, to enjoy their selection of microbrewery beers or to dance with your community, all opportunities are good to spend a Saturday in good company!
Sunday, August 28: Ottawa Pride Walk
The Pride Walk will begin at 1:00 pm in downtown Ottawa. The meeting point for those wishing to walk with the Jeunesse Idem team and their wagon is coming soon. You can follow updates via the Facebook event page, or by subscribing to the Jeunesse Idem page.
