Des Collines Health Foundation brings back Masquerade fundraiser
Sophie Demers
The “Getting into Bed with the Des Collines Health Foundation” Masquerade fundraising event will return on February 18th at the Centre Wakefield La Pêche located at 38 Chem. de la Vallee de Wakefield. This will be the fourth edition of the event; this year’s theme is “Metamorphosis”. Their 2020 edition of the event raised over $20,000; this year’s goal is $25,000. There are usually 200 to 300 people at the events.
“It is a wild and fantastic night”
Tickets are available to purchase on the Des Collines Health Foundation’s website https://fsdc-dchf.ca/masquerade-party/.
Advance tickets are $25, tickets can be purchased at the door, but the price will increase to $30. All the proceeds will go to making improvements to support a comfortable living environment in long-term care facilities in the Des Collines area. The event is completely run by volunteers.
“An awesome group of women get together every year to make this happen,” said Megan Throop, one of the organizers. “We have creative geniuses who convert the space into what feels like a mystical land, and many others who help make this amazing event happen. We do not have many days left but if there are any other groups daring enough to join, we can fit them in if they give us a call.”
Doors open at 6 pm and the show begins at 7 pm. There is food and drink available on site, the proceeds of which go toward the fundraiser. The Village House oversees the meals and Old Chelsea Square will be at the bar with their award-winning gin. The show is composed of 15 teams made from local groups who wear unique and wild costumes and perform a choose-your-own-adventure style show where anything goes. The teams compete for the golden plunger trophy.
“It’s silly night out where everyone has permission to not take themselves too seriously and have a good time for a good cause,” said Throop. “The shows happen on a catwalk that ends in a hospital bed. There is music and dancing and overall, it is a great time.”
The Foundation’s goal is to assist local health professionals in offering quality patient care and good quality of life.
The event is sponsored by Terra Design Construction, Fab, and Rupert Treasures.
