Chelsea municipal council approved new electoral district map
Sophie Demers
On May 28, Chelsea municipal council approved the updated electoral district map. The six districts had to be updated based on the municipal elections and referendum act that states that each electoral district must be delimited in a way that ensures the number of voters in each district does not vary over 15%-25% from one another.
This new map, more equally distributed voters between the six districts. District 1 now extends farther into Chelsea territory. District 2 now has 846 voters and is occupying a small territory between District 1 and 3. District 3, consisting of 1163 voters, is slightly larger, taking a portion of what used to be District 2. District 4 is taking up much of the territory that used to be District 2 and 4, and now has 997 voters. District 5 is very similar to the previous district 5 and is made up of 993 voters. Finally District 6, made up of 1267 voters, has extended slightly to the east.
The following maps show the differences between the previous district delimitations and the new map. More information on specific addresses is available to the Chelsea Municipality website: www.chelsea.ca
