2022 municipal by-election: six candidates will run in the Parc-de-la-Montagne-Saint-Raymond district
Sonia Roy
Following the passing of Louise Boudrias, the former municipal councillor for the Parc-de-la-Montagne-Saint-Raymond district, the City of Gatineau announced a nomination period for people who wish to run for the position of municipal councillor in this district. Six candidates were announced on September 23 at the end of the nomination period: Rémi Bergeron, Marc Bureau, Jérémie Carrier, Jacques G. Lavoie, Mathieu Paquette and Anne-Marie Roy are the names for which it will be possible to vote during this municipal by-election on October 23, 2022.
Note that all candidates are running as "independent", except for Anne-Marie Roy, who represents the citizen party Action Gatineau. For those concerned by this special election, it will be possible to vote at various locations on Sunday, October 23, between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., and also at advance polls on October 16, between noon and 8 p.m. Polling stations will be set up at the Eugène-Sauvageau Community Centre (179 Mutchmore Street), at the École internationale du Mont-Bleu (45 Boucher Street) and at the École du Lac-des-Fées (4 Camille-Gay Street).
The deadlines for such a situation have been respected by the City of Gatineau. Indeed, following a vacancy notice for a district councillor position, municipal authorities must hold by-elections within four months. In the case of a by-election, the same rules governing a general election apply and a period of 44 days must separate the public notice of election (which was communicated to the public on September 3, 2022) from the polling date. Two public notices were filed by the elections officer, Me Andrée Loyer, concerning the lists of electors for the Parc-de-la-Montagne-Saint-Raymond district and the voting process for residents and non-residents.
One notice concerns the conditions to be met in order to exercise one's right to vote: to be 18 years of age or older on October 23, 2022, to be a Canadian citizen and to have been domiciled in the electoral district of Parc-de-la-Montagne-Saint-Raymond since September 3, 2022 (resident for at least 6 months in Québec). The second is for property owners and owners or occupants of a commercial establishment in the district (non-domiciled): they must have been owners or tenants for at least 12 months before September 3, 2022 in order to exercise their right to vote in this election.
